Scottish Reformation

John Knox became the most forceful public voice of the Scottish Reformation. After imprisonment, exile, and time in Geneva, he returned to Scotland with a Reformed vision of preaching, discipline, education, and church order. Knox's legacy is especially important for Presbyterian history because he helped move Scottish Protestantism toward elder-led church government and a disciplined Reformed public theology. His career also shows how the Reformation was not only a German or Swiss event, but a wider European reshaping of worship, politics, Scripture, and authority.
