Why The Septuagint Matters
The Septuagint is the ancient Greek form of the Old Testament that shaped much of early Christian biblical language. Orthodox tradition gives it special importance because it stands close to the scriptural world of the apostles, the Greek-speaking fathers, and Byzantine liturgical usage.
For the app, the safest path is not to import the modern Orthodox Study Bible. Instead, the Orthodox Bible section should begin with public-domain Septuagint resources, especially Brenton's English translation, then add study notes, cross references, and patristic links around that source.
- - Primary text path: Brenton's English translation of the Septuagint.
- - Study method: compare Septuagint readings with KJV and Douay-Rheims where helpful.
- - Expansion path: add per-book introductions, Orthodox canon notes, and patristic references.
